# Import Work and use notes and fields

> Import Deals from CSV and choose between notes, metadata, and custom fields.

Use the Work CSV import to add or update many Deals in one workflow. Use structured fields for values the team needs to filter or report on, and notes for free-form context.

## Import Deals

    The selected workflow determines the accepted stages and workflow-specific fields.

  <Step title="Upload and map the CSV">
    Map each column to a Deal field. Keep stage names and other controlled values consistent with Settings.

    Resolve invalid stages, missing required values, and field-type errors before you confirm.

  <Step title="Commit the import">
    Import only after the preview matches the intended records. A changed file or mapping requires a fresh preview.

## Choose the right place for data

* **Custom fields** hold typed values such as text, numbers, dates, selections, or other configured field types.
* **Metadata** holds structured integration or operational values supported by the record.
* **Notes** hold readable context and can be edited or removed without changing the core profile.
* **Tags** apply the shared taxonomy across record types.

Avoid storing the same fact in several places. Choose the field the team will filter, report, or maintain, and document that choice in the workspace's working practice.
